Ben and Klysta Dorris donated the park land to Lane County in 1942. Dorris was president of the Blue River Mining Company in the 1890’s. Marten Rapids, best known of the McKenzie River’s rapids, is also within the boundaries of the park. The rapids are named after T.M. Marten, a state legislator and old Civil War veteran who also served as postmaster at Gate Creek in 1874. The park is day-use only and covers 79 acres, has 10 picnic sites, a boat landing and public toilets.
