Dalesman: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not responded to my note I am archiving it.

Guidelines:**You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing.**

Geocache Description:

Conisbrough was once home to a very famous street name, until it was changed in April 2009. It is not known how the street got the name, though it is speculated that it may have referred to a local water butt. The unfortunate name gained a lot of attention, with tourists visiting, people taking pictures whilst showing their rear ends next to the sign, the inspiration of a book, and the frequent stealing of the sign. Sadly the amusing street name caused problems for residents, who received prank phone calls and were dismissed as pranksters by taxi and delivery services. The decision to change the name was unanimous amongst the residents and they had to raise £300 to replace the sign, as it was not in need of repair.

This is part of a “growing up in Conisbrough” series, intended to give insight into some of the local history and sites of interest which may be overlooked due to the more glamorous locations such as the castle or church (which should definitely be visited).

It is a simple nano, suitable for a quick cache and dash. It is not from a busy road so discretion may be needed.
