The Ghost Blimp Wherigo Cache

This cache has been archived.

caccbag: I hate to do this but construction has ended this cache. I only own 3 WIG caches, so archiving one sucks. But the first stage was subject to construction and now the final GZ is under tractors and construction - will probably become town houses. History is still very interesting so I hope people learn about the blimp.

Geocache Description:

Prepare yourself to follow the trail of a little known blimp that created a mystery during World War II in the SF Bay Area.....a mystery that remains unsolved to this day!     This is CACCBAG's 300th hide - and Jimbexleyspeed's second time he has jumped to CACCBAG's aid in a Wherigo creation (Thanks to Geo-Magician for his help as well).

Because so much poison oak grows in the summer (hardly any there when I hid it) I placed an alternate cache at GZ. Instead of a regular, it is a camo'd bison hanging on a tree. You should be able to grab and avoid all PO. Oh…and all hinted objects in the final are gone except for one lone coconut about 9 feet up.
In this Wherigo, you will be led through a series of sites starting on Treasure Island, then going into Daly City, then San Francisco and back to Daly City.   At each location, we will give you some information of the location, some local history and some Ghost Blimp trivia.

Unfortunately, because we wanted to keep the trail historically accurate, this is almost certainly a cache you will need a car to do.  In theory, one could do a bus and a bike, but we couldn't begin to guess the time that would take or the alternate routes one would use.

You must download the Wherigo cartridge, made with the Earwigo program, (you will need a device that supports Wherigo - thus the special tool attribute.)  It is available here: Ghost Blimp

At the end is a good-sized final cache with plenty of goodies - PLEASE USE STEALTH! PLEASE ALSO WATCH FOR POISON OAK AT THE FINAL - THE FINAL LOCATION DOES HAVE SOME AROUND BUT WE TRIED TO BE CAREFUL WHEN WE PLACED THE CACHE TO AVOID P.O. (YET, CACCBAG DID GET A SMALL AMOUNT ON THE FOREARMS SO IT MUST BE THERE)    RE-HIDE IT OUT OF SIGHT PLEASE. IT IS HIDDEN BY ARTIFICIAL MOSS AND NATURAL CAMO NOW - PLEASE PLACE BACK IN THE HIDING PLACE WELL AND USE THE CAMO TO MAKE SURE IT REMAINS HIDDEN.

You should get a completion code at the end - but be sure to write it down, as we seem to be having trouble making the cartridge save it. We have tested this on computer, driving and walking at each site. Jimbexleyspeed has put in countless hours. But please know - there may be hiccups and for that we apologize. Please let us know of any issues you may encounter.
