The church was built in the 14th century. Its original tower fell down at 9:30pm on Sunday 11th April, 1742. This also caused damage to the church itself. An estimate to repair the breach was put at £45, and to repair the tower would have cost £474- a great deal of money in those days. At the time the church had 4 bells and a priest’s bell. The Bishop of the time gave his consent to sell 3 of the bells, which led to the following rhyme:
Wilstead folk are wicked people:
They sold their bells to build a steeple.
A wooden steeple was built, with the 2 remaining bells open to the elements. Eventually, the current stone tower was added to the church in 1850.
To find the location of the final cache you must first look at the mesh gates. The number of hinges holding the gates=B. The number of bolts in each hinge=C. Now go inside to the main door of the church. Count the number of screws in the shield shaped lock=A.
Now go to the sign at N52°04.793 W00°27.013. Here you will find that Holy Communion takes place at Dam.
The final coordinates are N52°0B.(A+5)(B-C)(B/C) W000°27.(C-4)0D
I recommend parking in Pollards Close, as turning round is easier than Church Road.
If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
