Geocache Description:

1900. – 1902. gadā ieaudzēta Skrīveru novada mežos (sēklas ievestas no Kanādas), 20. gs. sākumā – Šķēdes mežos- sēklas ievestas no Vācijas.
Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) is evergreen coniferous tree specie. It is native for North American oceanic and suboceanic climatic zones and grows in the coastal and mountain regions from west-central British Columbia to Sierra Nevada. In Latvia it introduced in the end of 18th century in the parks, but in the middle of 19th century in forest cultures. Necessity was motivated buy it’s fast growing and long living characteristics and resistance against wind damages in stands and diseases and pests. In year 1900 – 1902 it is planted in Skrīveri district (seeds were introduced from Canada), but seedlings for Šķēde`s district were from Germany.
