Saint Leopold Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Cenarius: Hi vbpopovic,

Unfortunately there's been some continuing issues with this cache and there is no reaction from the owner. Since the cache no longer meets the Guidelines requirements, I am archiving it. I'm also archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

If you think you have legitimate reasons for lack of maintenance and want to restore the cache in the near future, please let me know as soon as possible by the email provided in my profile. The message must include the GC code and the name of the cache. If the cache meets the requirements of the Guidelines and the reasons for unarchiving are justified, I may unarchive the cache.

IMPORTANT:
In case of permanent archiving of the cache, the owners are obliged to remove everything that they have placed on the field in relation to the cache (container and all placed waypoints).

Thank you for your understanding and best regards.

Geocache Description:

Herceg Novi is coastal town in Montenegro. located at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor.Herceg Novi was known as Castelnuovo between 1420 and 1797 when it was part of the Republic of Venice. Today in Herceg Novi you can find a lot of signs from the past. One of the significant mileston is fortress Forte Mare where you can start your tour. Cache itself is very close, just the nearby of the church of St. Leopold Mandic.

Saint Leopold- Bogdan Mandić was born on May 12, 1866 in Castelnuovo di Cattaro, today Herceg Novi. Physically malformed and delicate, having a height of only 1.35m, with clumsy walk and stuttering, he developed tremendous spiritual strength. His feast is celebrated May 12. He spent his whole life as a priest. On July 30, 1942, while preparing for the liturgy, he collapsed on the floor. He was then brought to his cell, where he was given the last rites.Nurs that had gathered at his bed began singing the Salve Regina and saw that Leopold died as they sang "O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary." As a result of the bombing during WW II, the church and part of the friary where Leopold lived were demolished, but Leopold's cell and confessional were left unharmed. Leopold had predicted this before his death, saying, "The church and the friary will be hit by the bombs, but not this little cell. Here God exercised so much mercy for people, it must remain as a monument to God's goodness." Paul VI beatified Leopold on May 2, 1976. He was canonized by John Paul II on October 16, 1983. Leopold is hailed as the "Apostle of Unity".
