Through the 20th century to the present day, the waters of the Winnipeg River have played, and will continue to play, a vital role in Manitoba's economic and social well-being. First used by aboriginals and early explorers for travel, the river's powerful waters were later used to provide electricity to the growing province.
Today, 6 generating stations in the span of only 65 miles, convert the waters' energy into electricity (about 583 MW in total), which accounts for about 15% of the hydroelectric power generated in Manitoba.
Of the six, Pointe des Bois is the oldest operating hydro station in Manitoba, at 86 years of age and still going strong.

This power trail is dedicated to the calm, yet powerful waters of the Winnipeg River, and will take you for a tour along a portion of its power generating span.
You are searching for 35mm film canisters. Please help maintain the trail and bring some replacement logs & containers, in case you encounter damaged containers or wet logs. Cache #1 of the series is an ammo can, and has a small supply of spare canisters with logs. Take one or two with you. If they aren't needed, recycle them as new caches of your own. There is also a disposable camera in the ammo can, which is not swag. Please take a picture of your caching group before you head out and we'll add them to this cache page from time to time.
Depending on season and weather, rubber boots are recommended and, during the winter months, the snow could be deep and finding some of the caches may be a challenge. Make sure you’re prepared! As you will be close to highways, be mindful of traffic as you venture.
