"Le square de la Croix-Rouge est situé en face de l'entrée de l'abbaye de la Cambre. Il occupe l'emplacement de l'ancien Paddevijver, un des quatre étangs, comblé. Ce n'est qu'en 1954 (ou 1970 ?) qu'on donna un nom à ce lieu; avant cela on parlait de l'esplanade de la Cambre. Il a aussi une particularité assez rare : il ne compte aucun habitant.
On y trouve quelques œuvres d'art. Ici une colonne élevée en 1933 à la mémoire des civils ixellois qui prirent part aux campagnes coloniales entre 1876 et 1908; ce monument est dû au sculpteur Marcel Rau et à l'architecte Alphonse Boelens."
"The Square of the Red Cross is located at the entry of the abbey of La Cambre. It's located on the site of old Paddevijver, one of the four ponds, filled in. It is only in 1954 (or 1970?) that this name is gived; before that, one spoke about the esplanade of La Cambre. It has also a characteristic: it does not count any inhabitant.
