O Pastor Traditional Geocache

Esta cache é uma singela homenagem aos meus antepassados, ao mesmo tempo serve de pretexto para vos levar a visitar ou revisitar a Lagoa do Caiado.

Esta é a maior Lagoa da ilha do Pico, tem uma area de 5,49 ha. A bacia hidrográfica, com 18,8 ha, situa-se a uma altitude média de 821,8 m.

O estado ecológico da lagoa é excelente. Esta classificação prende-se sobretudo com o facto de que desde 1993 a água da lagoa ser captada para abastecimento público pela Câmara Municipal de São Roque, verificando-se desde essa data ausência da prática da atividade agropecuária na bacia hidrográfica, que se encontra sobretudo ocupada por espaços florestais.

A Lagoa é abrangida pela Rede Natura 2000, Important Bird Area (IBA), e pela Área de Paisagem Protegida da Zona Central.

This cache represents a simple homage to my ancestors and at the same time an excuse to make you visit or revisit Caiado Lagoon.

This Lagoon is the largest lagoon of Pico's island, it has an area of 5,49 ha. The watershed, with 18,8 ha, is situated at an average altitude of 821,8 m.

The ecological status of the lagoon is excellent. This classification relates primarily to the fact that since 1993 the lagoon water is capture for public water supply by the São Roque Municipal Council, verifying the absence from that date of the practice of agricultural activities in the watershed, which is mainly occupied by woodland.

The lagoon is covered by Natura 2000, Important Bird Area (IBA), and the Protected Landscape Area of Zona Central.
