Geocache Description:

The cache.

You are looking for a 1.3litre cliplok box which contains swapables of good quality, a log book contained in a plastic bag and a number of TB etc. Please bring your own pen etc to sign the log

This is placed by an on/off ramp for the A3 trunk road. Parking is available in a layby by the cache and obviously this isn't a place to allow children to wander around.

Etiquette:

A GC and TB Hotel without residents is a sad place.

You don't have to take an item if you don't want to. However, if you do take an item, it is good to leave another item as a fair (or better than fair) exchange.

The cache has a good stock of items for the young cacher who may have to remain in the car at this location.

Please. No monetary coins, Fast Food Company Toys, shell’s, pebbles etc. It's disappointing for children if, having found the cache they are presented with rubbish and tat. Many thanks

The Location.

The wooded area to the left of the cache is the Longmoor Intermediate Training Area of the British Army which has a large track around it's perimeter to which the public have full access for walking, exercising dogs, cycling etc and if you look through the nearby fence and gates you'll be able to see this track down the slope below you.

The track is the former railway bed for the Longmoor Military Railway where soldiers were taught how to build and maintain a railway and to drive the engines. The Army closed the railway in 1969 but the training area is still used for light training.

A bid by a steam railway preservation consortium to buy the railway system and a nearby airstrip at Gypsy Hollow was turned down by the MOD. However, the MOD offered to sell the section of railway between Liss and Longmoor and a bid was made by a group headed by Pete Waterman of record producers Scott, Aitken and Waterman. This group were outbid by the people of Liss who banded together, raised the money, bought the railway and then removed the track etc.

The LMR was also used for location shoots on many films including; Bhowani Junction, Young Winston, Inn of the 6th Happiness, The Lady Vanishes, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Great St Trinians Train Robbery, The Challenge and Runaway Railway to mention but a few.

The busy A3 trunk road run's underneath this location and this isn't a child friendly place.
