If you have been wondering like me who that guy on the statue is, here goes :)

The statue commemorates the discovery of gold by the prospector George Harrison.
Harrison discovered the Witwatersrand Main Reef in 1886, leading to the development of Johannesburg

George Harrison Statue Statue is 9m high.(13m with podium) cast in bronze and depicts Mr George Harrison.
The hat weighs 113kg. Sculptor Tienie Pritchard was commissioned on 15 November 1985.
Hartebeespoort Foundry used 5,5 tons bronze for the piece and it took almost 3 years to complete the statue.
The statue was erected in 1988 at a cost of R500 000 from the Johannesburg Centenary budget.
