Named after the early Johannesburg historians, James and Ethel Gray, this little park snuggled in the affluent suburb of Birdhaven, just south of glamorous Melrose Arch, was originally a bird sanctuary. It is still home to an assortment of feathered residents, and after a R5-million upgrade the park should become a favourite of Joburg residents.
The published coordinates will lead you to the parking and entrance of the park.
Make your way from the parking to the 1st stage coordinates (S 26° 08.548 E 028° 03.856) which will lead you to the Katyn Memorial.
The memorial in this park commemorates the victims of Katyn massacre as well as South African and Polish airmen who flew missions to drop supplies for the Warsaw Uprising.
The Katyn massacre, also known as the Katyn Forest massacre was a mass execution of Polish nationals carried out by the People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs (NKVD), the Soviet secret police.
