Geocache Description:

This is one of a series of caches that takes you for a walk around an area thought to be populated by Saxons from around 556 AD.
One theory is that a Saxon leader called Hraefn(Raven) took over a Roman villa estate and turned it into his fortified dwelling (Hraefn Burh).
Hraefn can be found as part of the old saxon names of other towns such as Ramsgate
If you look around Ramsbury you may notice a number of references to ravens, such as the two ravens in the north gate of the church and an area called Ravensfield near the river.

The Walk passes some nice copses, Littlecote House - a tudor house where Henry VIII is said to have courted Jane Seymor and one of the best Roman mosaics in the country at the Roman villa/temple nearby.

You could also look at the Ravens Walk as a short series about trees.
