Geocache Description:

This cache is located very close to the site of the Clubhouse for the Bulwell Forest Artisans. It was located between Hucknall Road and the railway embankment (now a supermarket car park). It was fronted by a low Bulwell Stone wall with an entrance (which can still be seen) directly opposite the current Bulwell Forest Golf Club Clubhouse.

The cache is a lock & lock box in a camo bag containing log, pencil, and several swaps. Feel free to take any of the swaps, but in the spirit of GeoCaching please replace it with one of yours. There is room for small Trackables.
Easy vehicle access with off road parking within yards of the GZ. Ground is uneven and may cause problems for those with difficulty in walking.

This cache is located very close to the site of the Clubhouse for the Bulwell Forest Artisans. The clubhouse was a single storey wooden building with a set of steps leading from what is now Hucknall Road, up to the front door. It was located between Hucknall Road and the railway embankment (now a supermarket car park). It was fronted by a low Bulwell Stone wall with an entrance (which can still be seen) directly opposite the current Bulwell Forest Golf Club Clubhouse.
The building itself slowly gave in to the ravages of time and fell into disrepair, eventually collapsing and was finally removed by the local authority in the late 1970’s. Nothing now exists to show where the building was, except for the Bulwell Stone wall.
There is loads of free parking at: N53 0.197, W001 10.716.

Artisans were set up all over the country during the 1880’s. They were made up of working class men who had a love of Golf, but were not allowed to join their local Golf Clubs. They had their own clubhouses set well away from the main clubhouse, and were given set tee times, usually early morning or late afternoon / evening.
Bulwell Artisans was mainly made up of local miners, builders, labourers, textile workers, railway workers, etc. In the early 1960’s both Bulwell Artisans and Bulwell Forest were struggling for members, so talks were held and it was decided that the two groups should merge. Some of the ‘Gentlemen’ members of Bulwell Forest were far from impressed with this arrangement and resigned their memberships, but the plan worked, and Bulwell Forest made it through to today.
The Bulwell Forest Clubhouse was chosen for obvious reasons. It is far bigger and more comfortable, has better facilities, it is adjacent to the course, and it had a bar (always a bonus). The Artisans clubhouse was used for a short time for storage and as a trolley shed, but the danger from increased traffic on the Hucknall Road and numerous burglaries and thefts led to it being abandoned a few years later.

FTF goes to 'Paneke' - well done
