SÉRIE 'O BRASIL NAS COPAS DO MUNDO' - Jogador #7: Romário - "O Baixinho"
Em 2014, a Copa do Mundo de Futebol foi disputada no Brasil. Esta série de caches tem o objetivo de celebrar este evento e repassar a história da seleção brasileira nas Copas do Mundo, do Campeonato de 1958 ao Pentacampeonato de 2002 e, quem sabe, o Hexacampeonato em 2018, na Rússia.
Dado que estamos aqui falando de futebol, foram selecionados, para esta série, 11 jogadores, representativos de cada um dos 5 campeonatos ganhos pelo Brasil desde 1958. Para cada campeonato ganho, 2 jogadores, num total de 10 jogadores, dos quais 1 é goleiro. E, para representar o conjunto da obra brasileira nas copas do mundo, o Rei do Futebol: Edson Arantes do Nascimento, o Pelé.
A escolha dos jogadores obedeceu a um critério: a relevância ou representatividade daquele jogador para a história do futebol brasileiro, no humilde entendimento do owner desta série de caches! O objetivo não é montar a "seleção brasileira dos sonhos" pois este owner sabe que, a depender das preferências individuais de cada um, a discussão poderia ser eterna.

Em uma época em que o futebol já se transformara em um jogo mais de técnica e disciplina tática do que de inspiração, Romário foi a principal cara da seleção brasileira da década de 90.
Romário de Souza Faria nasceu na comunidade de Jacarezinho, na cidade do Rio de Janeiro. Sua carreira no futebol se iniciou pelo pequeno Olaria, no ano de 1979.
Ao longo de sua carreira, defendeu inúmeros grandes times. No Brasil, foi ídolo das torcidas do Vasco da Gama, do Flamengo, do Fluminense e do América carioca - neste último, jogou somente uma partida, para atender a um sonho de seu pai.
Romário foi (e é) também um grande polemicista; suas polêmicas se iniciaram no futebol mesmo - colecionou desentendimentos com Zico, com Zagallo, com técnicos de futebol e até mesmo com Pelé e Maradona. Desde o ano 2010, Romário direciona sua energia para as polêmicas discussões na Câmara dos Deputados, na qual exerce o cargo de Deputado Federal pelo Estado do Rio de Janeiro

'BRAZIL IN THE WORLD CUPS' GEOCACHE SERIES
In 2014, the World Cup of Soccer took place in Brazil. The objective of this cache series is to celebrate that event and review the history of the Brazilian national team in the World Cups, from the first victory in 1958 up to the fifth one in 2002 and, who knows, the 6th one in 2018, in Russia.
Given that we’re speaking about football here, a total of 11 players were picked for this cache series, representing each one of the 5 world cups won by Brazil since 1958. For each championship won, 2 players; 10 in total, 1 of them a goalkeeper. And, representing the Brazilian national team assembled conquests in the World Cups, the King of Football: Edson Arantes do Nascimento, aka Pelé.
The players’ selection followed one criterion: the relevance or representativeness of each player to the Brazilian soccer history, in the humble opinion of this series’ cache owner! The objective is not to assemble the “all time Brazilian national dream team” because this owner know that, depending on each one’s particular preferences, there would be eternal discussion!
BTW: thinking on the development of a ‘tourist friendly’ cache series, any information needed to solve the mysteries in this cache series can be found in English over the internet – a nicely done Google search, even with an English input, will do it – believe me, I’ve tested it!
You may pursue the whole series in one single sequence or to pick your favorite players to go after, as you prefer. If you want to go after the whole series, it is recommended to do it in the same order of the players and to be prepared for a 3km walk

PLAYER #7: Romário - "The Shorty"
Controversial. Folkloric. Popular. Shorty. Brazilian.
In an era when football had already been transformed into a game with more technique and tactical discipline than inspiration, Romario was one the main faces of the Brazilian team of the 90s.
Romario de Souza Faria was born in the Jacarezinho community of Rio de Janeiro. His football career started at the small Olaria team, in 1979.
Throughout his career, he defended many great teams. In Brazil, he was an idol of the fans of Vasco da Gama, Flamengo, Fluminense and the small America from RJ - in the latter, he played only one match, a long-time wish of his father.
Romario was (and is) also a great polemicist; his controversies began already in football - he collected disagreements with Zico, Zagallo, some coaches and even with Pele and Maradona. Since the year 2010, Romario directs his energy to controversies and discussions in the Brazilian House of Representatives, into which he holds a position of Federal Deputy by the State of Rio de Janeiro
