Campus Trail: The Duck Pond Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

The Quietly Crew: This cache was checked today and found to be missing. As indeed are all of the campus ducks, so that the duck pond is now just a pond, pretty much devoid of all water fowl -- I spotted just one bored and lonely looking Coot. As it becoming increasingly hard to keep campus caches from vanishing, we have decided to begin archiving this series of caches.

Geocache Description:

A cache located just off the Campus Woodland Trail down by the duck pond.

This cache was originally part of Rubypuppy's "Woodland Trail" series of caches, which has now been expanded to cover more of the Woodland Trail and also provide more and varied caches. Each cache in the series contains a piece of information that is needed to locate the Campus Trail: The Bonus Cache, so don't forget to make a note of that when you locate this cache. Please note that the old series Bonus Cache is no more, so any Bonus Cache information previously obtained from this cache is of no use. Sorry!

This cache was moved to a new location in Sept 2013, and is in a different container, which holds a logbook and has room for small swaps. Please note carefully where you found the cache so that you can return it to exactly the same place: it should stay where you put it. If it doesn't, check that it is not only in the right spot but is also the right way round!

Lake Carter (aka The Duck Pond)

Technically speaking, Lake Carter, as it officially named (or the Duck Pond, if you want anyone to know what you're talking about) is not part of the Woodland Trail, but it is too nice a spot not to visit on this series. This artificial water feature takes its name from the University's first Vice Chancellor, Sir Charles Carter. The lake has always been a popular spot for student picnics and other shenanigans.

The lake is home to several typical breeds of ducks and other water birds, including moorhens and coots, and also to an amazing wild cockrell by the name of Max. Max was abandoned about a few years ago and has adapted to life in the reeds! He is gorgeous! Bring bread with you and you will make friends for life!
