Up to the mid 2000s, there was a hard-standing area just north of the cache location which I understand was used for engine run-up and system testing of aircraft built here on Brooklands prior to their first flights - such as the Vickers Vanguard. Hence the cache name
In the late 90s and early 2000s, this taxiway was used as both a weekly market (the neighbours hated the smell of burgers from 7am in the morning!) and occasionally for police high-speed pursuit training.
Approx 2004, the whole of the central area was sold and part of the planning deal with the local council was to not only hand over the area where the cache is (south of Wellington Way) to the council as public open space, but also to pay for some flood alleviation work. The latter will be evident when you are at the cache location.
