The Great Wall of Oakland Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

xocgeo: The cache had been hidden in a fence support pole. Before hiding the cache, I looked at "street view" pictures and saw that the fence had been in this state for some time (years?). Since the fence was functional, I figured it was safe to assume it would remain like this indefinitely.

Unfortunately for the cache, the fence support pole was recently replaced, and the cache is now gone. The fence looks great! But, the openings have all been sealed.

This was really the only spot I could see that would support this kind of easy, out-of-the-way, sidewalk accessible hide. I've looked around, and I don't think it is possible to maintain this kind of hide elsewhere in the immediate area.

Thus, I think the best thing to do is to archive this listing and open the area to a possibly fresh cache idea.

Thanks to all who sought this cache and logged their experiences here!

Geocache Description:

Pill fob. Log only (bring your own pen(cil)). Wheelchair and sidewalk accessible.

The "Great Wall of Oakland" is a 100 foot by 100 foot side of an office building used during Oakland's "Art Murmur" (First Friday) events as a projection surface to display artwork and videos. There are also live (human) performances on the wall by "Project Bandaloop", a troupe that does vertical dancing while suspended from the top of the wall.

GPS reception is difficult in this area, presumably due to nearby tall buildings, so here is some extra information to help in the search:

* The cache is hidden about half a block away from the wall. You can see the wall from the cache site.
* The cache is accessible from the sidewalk. No need to go next to any buildings.
* At this writing, the coordinates are accurate on all the online maps accessed from the listing page. The coordinates are also accurate on the in-unit automobile GPSr map that I checked.

Congratulations and Thanks to panda ellie and N3urom4ncer for the first find.
