Geocache Description:

The cache is a canouflaged glass jar.  Please handle with care.

The cache is located near the trailhead to the Sierra Buttes Lookout Trail.  To get there, drive towards Packer Lake.  Just as you spot the lake, there is a Y in the road.  Take the road to the left, which is Forest Service Road #93, also called County Road 621 on some maps.  From here, go exactly two miles UPHILL towards the cache.  Just before you get to the cache there is a relatively large parking area.  Do not stop here...trust your odometer and GPS...and bear left to a second large parking area.  The cache is a short walk from here.  The road is paved the entire distance.

If you're feeling like you need to stretch your legs, consider hiking to the top of the Buttes and the Lookout Tower.  You've probably been able to spot it from 'down below'.  Drive, or walk, another ~.1 miles to the trailhead, where there is also some limited parking.

This lookout tower has been there since long before I began coming to Sierra County in 1953.  It used to be staffed during the summer, for purposes oif spotting forest fires.   You've already driven up most of the altitude to the top, so the hike there isn't too bad. When you arrive at the top of the Buttes you'll find metal stairs up to the lookout tower.   It hasn't been manned in probably 20 years.    Check it out.  The view is SPECTCULAR!
