Geocache Description:

This is a short offset multi cache which will take you to St Swithun's Church in the village of Crampmoor.

Cache is a small container containing a small log book.

** Please bring your own pen to sign the log **

St Swithun was a Bishop of Winchester in the kingdom of Wessex, and was reputed to be a generous man helping poor churches of the day by rebuilding their dilapidated buildings and rededicating them most of the time with his own money. His emblems are Apples and raindrops hence the 40 days and 40 nights of weather following St. Swithun's day on the 15th July. The original poem is below;

St Swithin's day if thou dost rain

For forty days it will remain

St Swithun's day if thou be fair

For forty days 'twill rain na mair

The church was built in the mid 19th century to accommodate the local residents needs. It was designed to be a multipurpose building, for the first part of its life it was a Church on Sunday and a School from Monday to Friday. After several decades there were too many children to teach effectively in such a small building, and a new school was built not far away in School Road. This school has now been closed and in it's place is the local Village Hall.

The coordinates will take you to the main gate of the church

We have placed this cache on the 15th July 2012 to celebrate the 1,041st feast day of St. Swithun.

To find this cache you will need to gather the answers to the clues below that are located in and around the church.

A= The Number of panes of Glass in the RHS Window at rear of church

B= The Number of panes of Glass in the LHS Window at rear of church ?

C= The first two digits of the date on the church

D= The bottom digit of "H" on the ground

The cache can be found at N 50 59.B(B-A-6)D W001 27.(B-A)(C/9)(D-1)

To find out much more information on the church and St. Swithun himself please visit http://www.romseynet.org.uk/stswithuns.htm.

The cache is hidden within half a mile of the published co-ordinates and on your way to GZ you pass some of the other buildings that make up a typical small English village. Please be aware that the A3090, which is the main Romsey to Winchester road, runs through the village and gets very busy, please be careful.

Please be considerate to the residents of Crampmoor when parking your car.

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
