What do YOU say when you're out caching and you slip and fall? Hopefully nothing more than a PG rated "blasted!", but I"ll bet if you had been here when this event happened, you would have said more than that! Be careful when you get out of your boat; the bank is muddy and slippery so you may be saying "blasted" or something similar yourself.
Birch stream is a favorite paddle of mine because no matter what time of day you go, you're apt to see some wildlife. On this little stretch, I've seen a moose, beaver, otter, deer, turtles, great blue herons and kingfishers. There is a small parking area and boat launch on Rt. 116 (Southgate Road) where the stream flows into the Penobscot River. From there its about a 2 mile paddle up to the cache. You are looking for a small (4"x 6") pelican container. Hope you enjoy the scenery and the solitude!
