Geocache Description:

Small sized container. Sorry, but an ammo can would not have lasted log here. Big enough for small trackables and swag. Remember to bring a weapon of choice of writers and authors. Use stealth as you approach the GZ. Easy find, higher rating due to the amount of muggles around. Watch your step as you head down to the GZ, the last step can be a little treacherous if you are not careful.

This area is commonly used as a swimming area. In the summertime, as you approach the GZ, you will more than likely see kids, teens and adults jumping from the rocks into the river. Though I have not participated in this activity, it does look like a lot of fun. I may try it (just once) next year. No promises, but I may. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, there is a frequent AMR paramedic on scene in case of emergencies. I spoke with the paramedic on duty and he gave me a brief history of the area. The area was once a spot where the railroad crossed the Clackamas River.

Later on, that track was discontinued and moved a little ways to the west. That new crossing was also discontinued later on still, before the current rail crossing to the east was placed. You can still see all three rail line (and the remnants) not far from the GZ. The river near the GZ (as I was told by the paramedic on duty) is roughly 2-3 feet deep at the rapids. Once the river gets past the rapids, the depth drops down to about 6 feet deep. You can see the rapids under and just past the I-205 bridge, to the east. This is apparently a good place to go fishing, as I have seen several anglers the few times I've been out here.

Once around the bend, the river plunges somewhere between 15-20 feet deep. This deep point is where most people dive into the water. If any information here is incorrect, please let me know and I will fix it. Most of it is all word of mouth. Again, please use extreme stealth to prolong this cache. Also, please watch your step at the GZ, that last step is a doozie!!

Good luck and Happy Caching!

7/23/12 - Thanks to Nessker for taking the new coordinates. I guess I was having a bad coordinate week here. My apologies to those who went downhill to search! No need to go down the trail unless you want to.The 2-star terrain is to keep you thinking and safe. I don't want anyone taking that big step off the edge.
