Geocache Description:

This is a remote cache in the south-eastern tip of Europe, cape Maleas. It is located inside one of the structures of the German WW2 Watchtower.
One of the best views in Greece and a very rich cache!

To get there: There are two ways to get here. The closest you can get, but only if you have a 4x4 or simillar offroad vehicle, is within 20 minutes of walking. There are 2 dustroads that lead to close to the watchtower, one starts in Velanidia village, the other starts in Agia Marina and the climbing areas. The way I suggest however, is doing the hour long walk from the center of Velanidia village. Velanidia is connected by bus to Neapoli town, which is connected by bus to Sparta and Athens, and by boat to Kythera island.

In order to ask the locals in Velanidia for directions ask for "To Ergo", that's how it's called in the area. In general terms you'll have to walk up the hill to the south, using the Δ11 trail and then make a small detour to the East. The trail is quite evident.

What was there: The german wathctower was a naval signal-corps unit with 3 main objectives. One was communicating with german ships in the eastern mediterranean, second was watching for arriving enemy ships and third was helping bombers bound for africa navigate over the mediterranean and reaching their targets with precission

The cache: The cache is a large original period box, used for magazine storage. It contains the following items:

very special FTF certificate
TB
Logbook in original period paper
1943 newspaper
German navy original "sammelbild"
German gasmask
Piece of German bayonet
German gun accessory
D-Day scarf
Please do not remove any of the original period items. They are meant to be like a small museum of the unit's everyday, not to be taken away.

The hiding place:
PLEASE make sure you rehide the cache as carefully as it's hidden now, muggles visit the place occasionaly and the cache contents make it very attractive to loot. If in doubt, use the hint and you'll find it quite easily.
Welcome to Cape Maleas and enjoy your Geocaching experience! About the Cape Maleas cache series The series of caches around Cape Maleas are intended to get geocachers to visit some of the highlights of this ancient land. Most of them are not easy to reach but the experience is very rewarding. Please keep in mind that these areas are not touristical and most of the caches don't have any kind of water or facilities nearby. Also please be very careful not to leave any trash or otherwise alter the scenery (do not remove fossils or other items). If you need any further information or assistance, please contact me anytime and I'll be happy to help. So, welcome to the southeast edge of continental europe and enjoy your walks in this well hidden paradise.
