Geocache Description:

This Ancient Aerie is located at a beautiful overlook of Fort Valley not far off the AZ Trail, San Francisco Peaks Passage - Segment 34B.

The cache is in the middle of one of our favorite Passages on this 817-mile National Scenic Trail through Arizona from Mexico to Utah.  It is about halfway down the Segment. With a shuttle car, it's a dandy, moderate, one-way hike.  It's "ancient" because the cache was hidden a while back and circumstances prohibited logging it. Goodies await, including a travel bug and a collapsible sunhat. The rocks are solid, but take care as you clamber close to ground zero. As with any cache in AZ, it's a good idea to explore with something other than your hand first.

Any eagle would be pleased to make its home above this site. The container is metal and is well camoflaged by the environment. Note the fine trail construction and give a silent  "thank you" to the volunteers, AZ Trail members, CREC, and Forest Service crews who made such a lovely path for hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians. It was tough work! Trailhead coordinates are available for downloading by ATA members.

Food is available at the Ski Lift Lodge and Cabins or at the Snowbowl itself. If you haven't taken the Skyride at the Snowbowl, and it's open, the view from the top is even more spectacular than the view from the cache.
