The community known as Quartzville was first settled in the early 1860s and survived many booms and busts in the mining industry high on the slopes of Mount Bross. Silver ore was the primary commodity produced by the mining camp and it has been said that the ore was so difficult to treat that it was sent to Wales for refining. By the turn of the century the settlement had been abandoned due to the repeal of the Sherman Silver Purchase Act, which crippled the silver mining industry. Today, very little remains of Quartzville but if you look closely you might see the ruins of a cabin or arrastra.

North of Alma, go west on County Road 4 for 1.9 miles then turn left on Beresford Crossing, which turns into Roberts Road. Go 2 miles west on Roberts Road until you see the turn off for Crest Drive. If you have a 4WD/high clearance vehicle you can continue up Crest Drive to the cache, otherwise you can hike.
