SP's Geolympix Pub Quiz Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Simply Paul: Under Groundspeak guidelines, it's time to archive this event. Thanks very much for getting involved and joining in everyone. Sorry it went on later than planned but it started a bit latter than I wanted - such is life! The money it raised (£36) was really appreciated too - it was our float for the Geolympix Mega, just a few hundred feet away on the following Sunday.

For fans of graphics for your profile, we'll be adding one for this event to the main Geolympix page http://coord.info/GC22T2T as well as our website http://www.Geolympix.com/how.html and this page too, if we can.

"Look at what you could have won... If it's up there, I'll give you the money myself... Bernie, the bolt... Is that your final answer..? Say what you see... You are the weakest link... I've started so I'll finish."

I've finished [:)]

Geocache Description:

Having enjoyed running my Geocaching Pub Quizes in February and May, it seemed like a good idea to hold another. And this is it! A fun, relaxed way to kick-off the Geolympix Programme.

Q1. Name this popular Oxford Inn :)

Where: The Mitre. 17 High Street (corner of Turl St.) Oxford OX1 4AG. Tel: 01865 244563. A historic old coaching inn just around the corner from the Geolympix venue. We have the upstairs function room (to seat 80) and there is a Beefeater restaurant downstairs, who will deliver to your table upstairs.

When: From 7pm on Friday July 20th. The quiz will begin at 8pm sharp!

What: An evening of Geocaching pub quizzing, TB swapping, geo-natter and a general warm-up event for the main Geolympix Mega event on Sunday the 22nd.

Who: Cachers (but not geodogs, sorry. There is no garden/outside area for them either. It is a kid-friendly pub though) from far and wide! New to caching or cache events? You're especially welcome. You may wish to team-up with some more experienced cachers for the quiz though... :)

The Quiz: 11 rounds of 11 questions (a nod to our 11 in 11 challenge) with the classics; a picture and a music round, and a good mix of questions. Play for free (but forfit the prize if you win!) or £1 per person (to help pay for the Geolympix) with nice Geolympix goodies for the winners. Suggested teams of four.

Access: The website claims the venue is 'universally accessible' but I'll double check with the manager, Andy, about wheelchair access to the function room. Update: Universal means the ground floor. Wheelchair users, please contact me via my profile.

Parking: You may find free parking in Oxford City Centre on a Friday evening (beware the one-way system though!) but I can recommend the free car park at N51° 44.212 W001° 14.456. From here it's a 1.6mile/25min walk along the very pretty river to the venue. A lot quicker by bike - there are ramps on and off the roads and it's a popular route for cyclists. Exit the car park back onto the road, turn right and right again to cross the river on the bridge, take the route down onto the riverbank walk and head north-ish, past the large boat houses on the opposite bank to the next big bridge. Get up here and turn right. Cross the river to head towards the city centre. Pass the Town Hall on your right and at the big crossroads, where Carfax Tower is, turn right. The Mitre is on your left a little way along. Motorbikes can be parked for free close-by at N51° 45.092 W001° 15.256.

Public Transport: Less than 10 mins from the coach station and around 0.7miles/1.1Km from Oxford train station.

Bonus: A great place to get your Geolympix questions answered.

The Geolympix: Be Outstanding in the Field!
