This geocache is on a small island in the middle of Blanda River off the ring road in Blönduós. The island is named Hrútey, or “ram island” in Icelandic, hence the idea for the name "Aries." The island is a protected nature reserve. It has a lot of bird life to see and there are several trails constructed that lead to picnic benches and beautiful views of the Blanda River.
PLEASE NOTE: Hrútey is closed 20 Apr - 20 Jun every year to protect nesting birds. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Parking is across from the N1 gas station, or you can walk from the camping area along the river bank.
Use the carabiner to detach the cache from the spot it is secured to.
