Geocache Description:

S1

Danube Trail of Courage (DTC) is a series of caches in the area of Danube distributaries between Hungarian villages Rajka and Dunasziget, along the Slovak-Hungarian border. Local people, living in this area of Szigetköz and Mosoni-Duna, call the territory “the rye isle”. Various flowing distributaries and billabongs of Danube river are crossed by several bridges and diversion dams used for regulation of Danube’s flow speed. On Hungarian side, the biggest dam in this area is Dunakility dam.

Various species of protected animals and birds can be found here, with a bit of luck you can see the the traces of beavers, with bigger luck the animals can be observed directly. Out of the various fish species, the crucians, carps and basses can be seen. The southern part of the area is dominated by the underscrubs and rushes, while the northern part is characterized by the flood-plain forests. Please be advised that during the sunny days the basic geocaching accessories should be complemented by the protection from the solar radiation and enough drink water. There are lots of camps and places for short-term and long-term camping as well.

We recommend to alternatively enjoy the beauty of this place from kayak or boat, or to go sailing in undisturbed areas of Mosoni-Duna. Even if you are prepared enough and armed properly, one additional important information needs to be said: All caches from DTC series (with the exception of the bonus cache) are traditionals, their difficulty/terrain combinations cover all possible D/T options. In total series contains 81 caches. It may sometimes seem that the D/T and attributes do not match the reality, but do not forget that these values are very relative and can suddenly change with the increased or flooded Danube’s river-basin, e.g. terrain can easily go up from 1.5 to 5. Be careful and do not overrate your strengths, if you are not confident enough to go for high terrain caches, just skip them. The whole DTC series is about fun, relax and sport. We hope that you will enjoy it the same way we did.
