P&M's 50 Cache Dash is a series of fifty caches placed along a scenic route south east of Pretoria. The route runs along Rietvlei Nature Reserve for the first stretch, so be sure to do some game spotting as well as cache spotting, and then runs through some more rural and agricultural areas before heading back towards Pretoria again.
We have tried to mix things up along the way so some caches will be easy to find and others will be more difficult, the container sizes and types are not all the same and their hiding spots should hopefully also keep you guessing as you go. We placed this series as our way of saying thank you for all the fun we have had in our first year of geocaching, so we really hope that you enjoy it and have fun too!
Maize, known in many English-speaking countries as corn or mielie/mealie, is a cereal crop that is grown widely throughout the world in a range of agroecological environments. More maize is produced annually than any other grain. About 50 species exist and consist of different colors, textures and grain shapes and sizes. White, yellow and red are the most common types. The white and yellow varieties are preferred by most people depending on the region.
Maize was introduced into Africa in the 1500s and has since become one of Africa's dominant food crops. Like many other regions, it is consumed as a vegetable although it is a grain crop. The grains are rich in vitamins A, C and E, carbohydrates, and essential minerals, and contain 9% protein. They are also rich in dietary fiber and calories which are a good source of energy.
