Come out and join the fun as we celebrate another stop along the Alabama State Parks Geocaching Challenge!

Event will be held on October 27, 2012 and begins at 9am at the Desoto State Park located in DeKalb County, Alabama.

Thousands in CACHE and Prizes to be won!!
There will be activities for all age groups, so make sure you
plan to spend the day with us!

Keep a check on our event page for a list of all activities planned for the weekend. We plan to post activities as they are finalized so make a point to check back often!

Lunch will be provided by the hosting members of CVC.

 Menu to include: BBQ Chicken Sliders, Hotdogs, Pinto Beans, Homemade Soup & Chili and Fried Cornbread plus all the fixings.

Bottled water will be provided but we request that all attendees “BYOD” (bring your own drink).  There is a Country Store located in the park, within walking distance, if you forget.

 

There will be all sorts of activities (for every age group) held throughout the day.

Activities to include (but not limited too!):
~ Scavenger Hunt ~ Bingo ~ Dash for the Cache ~
~ Cache Mob ~Hoop the Ammo ~

PLUS...at 3pm we will be having a Survivor Auction!

We have a large variety of prizes to be won! (These items are unlike your usual door prize items!)


You will earn geo-CACHE during the day on all the planned activities and will use this to bid on the items at the Survivor Auction!! They won't cost you a thing! (Well…maybe just a bit of energy, thought, and some good ole’ geo-sense!)

The Desoto State Park will also be celebrating their “Spookaloosa” weekend. They have several park activities also available for your enjoyment. Some activities include:

 

Storytellin’ Campfire Talk: Ghosts on the Mountain

Spooky stories guaranteed to put shivers up your spine! Learn about Alabama’s finest spooks, legends and folklore from JSU Field Schools’ Renee Morrison and Jenny Walker Whitman.  Friday, October 26, 2012 from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm at  DeSoto State Park's Campfire Ring in the Improved Campground

Spooky Movie Night Under the Stars

Friday, October 26, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at DeSoto State Park’s Campfire Ring in the Improved Campground (gate will open to the public 30 minutes before movie starts) Free & open to the public; Seating is limited, so bring your own comfortable camp chair or blanket if you wish. In case of inclement weather, the movie will be shown in the large Pavilion in DeSoto’s Picnic Area

 

Growing Up WILD for Preschool Children: Mask Making

Join Canyon Center staff and volunteers every fourth Saturday of the month for fun nature and art programs for preschool age children. Make your own mask. Saturday, October 27 from 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon at the Little River Canyon Center in Fort Payne, AL (10 minutes from DeSoto State Park, on Alabama Highway 35) There are no fees but some programs may have limited space so pre-registration is encouraged. Call the Field School at 256.782.5697 for details.

Creepy Critters Show


Scaly! Slimy! Ugly! Scary! Join Dan Spaulding from the Anniston Museum of Natural History for a showing of some creepy crawly critters at this fun program. Children will squeal & adults will squirm! Saturday, October 27 at 12:00 noon at  DeSoto State Park's Nature Center(Next to the Country Store) Free to the Public; Great for all ages! Seating is limited!
