Geocache Description:

This is the 38th of a series in which a red telephone box is to be found within 20 feet of a red post box.

PLEASE BRING A PEN OR PENCIL!

Tisman’s Common sits in a triangle of roads on the western side of the parish of Rudgwick about 10 km. from Horsham. It was originally in an area of woodland but this is no longer the case. The ‘Tisman’s triangle’ is made up of Loxwood Road, the main through road from north-east to south-west; Pig Lane and its extension Hornshill Lane running roughly north-south; and the unnamed north-west to south-east lane from Exfold junction to the Crossways, along which are situated many of the Common’s houses, including several historic properties.

These phone boxes, designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott in the 1920's, have become desirable collectors items and an example of things quintessentially English. There is even one reported to be outside the British Embassy in Washington, though we have not yet found a picture of it online.

For more information, see the wikipedia entry Red Telephone Box.

Like others in the series, this telephone box has been assessed by BT Payphones to determine whether its use is sufficient to warrant maintaining it. In May 2008, it was proposed to remove the box after a consultation period of 42 days. It is still there, however, and also - miraculously - is in good condition and appears to be in working order. HOWEVER, AS OF OCT / NOV 2015 THE PHONE WAS FINALLY REMOVED, BUT THE PHONE BOX REMAINS, IT HAVING BEEN ADOPTED BY THE LOCAL COMMUNITY. Because of this change, we have decided to change and simplify the puzzle element of the multi. See instructions below.

THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE ABOVE CO-ORDINATES, WHICH ARE THOSE OF THE LETTER BOX, BUT IT IS VERY NEAR!!!/p>

Please do not stop too near the end of the lane where the Fine Pair sits. It can be a remarkably busy and potentially dangerous corner. For safety, please park a little further along, preferably on the side where the houses lie.

To find the cache, you need out of the box; that is, out of the letter box. But it's still in a box. So add .001 to the Northing and .004 to the Westing.

If anybody would like to extend 'A Fine Pair' series you are welcome to do so but first please contact mattd2k, who has adopted control of the pair numbering of the series from wizardsmum (its originator).
