Geocache Description:

This geocache is part of the Discovering Places “Culture Caching” project. The project features 5 new geocaches that have been hidden around the UK in locations related to the 1908, 1948, and 2012 Olympic Games.

Discovering Places is the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad campaign to inspire the UK to discover their local built, historic and natural environments.

It is delivered on behalf of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games by The Heritage Alliance.

Portland Sculpture Park is an old quarry where sculptors have used the remaining rocks to carve out figures over a number of years. The abandoned stone quarry offers a variety of stone carvings, wildlife, and vegetation for visitors to enjoy. The park is a short distance away from the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA), home of the 2012 London Olympics sailing competitions and Paralympic events.

If you have a camera with you, take a picture of yourself by one of the stone sculptures and post it in the gallery!

These 12 brand new Elliott 6m keel boats at WPNSA will be used for the 2012 Olympics

The WPNSA was formed as a not-for-profit company and opened in April 2000. It is around 190km (120mi) from the Olympic zone in central London.
