In the King & Scout expansion of Carcassonne, the objective is to have the longest completed road on the board at game's end. To that theme, this multicache involves a fair share of driving. The first four stages were lamppost caches, but due to continual upkeep problems they are now virtual stages near lammposts. The final is a physical hide in a tree (NO LONGER a lamppost).
STAGE 1: Look at the sign above this lamppost. There is a letter and a number. Stage 2 is at N 41° 54.(number-4)(number-1)7 W 088° 20.(number-1)(number-1)3
STAGE 2: Due west of this lamppost you'll find a powerbox. In the upper left corner there is a 7-digit code we'll call ABCDEFG. Stage 3 can be found at N 41° 55.(C+1)(B+1)0 W 088° 16.(D-1)(A-2)2
STAGE 3: A manhole is right next to this lamppost. Its city of origin has H letters. Stage 4 can be found at N 41° 54.(H-4)(H-5)7 W 088° 20.(H-2)(H-4)8
STAGE 4: There is a four digit code written on a powerbox just west of here, IJKL. The final can be found at N 41° 55.5KI W 088° 16.J(L+1)9 UPDATE: The four digit code may be missing, with a different number on the powerbox (7 digits with the letter T in the middle of it). If you find this number, use the number as IJKL(T)MN. The final can be found at N 41° 55.5(I+1)J W 088° 16.N(L-1)9
I've always thought the Chicagoland area needs more non-traditional caches, and thus are including them in this series. This is a longer multicache- it has five stages. Each stage will have you crossing the Fox River- about half are hidden on each side of the river. The drive between each stage is about 5 miles. Attempting it alone will take an hour, MINIMUM, and a significant amount of driving, hence the difficulty. Check the hint for some ideas if you wish. The final container will have a letter and/or number taped to the inside of the cache. These will tie-in to the final puzzle. If you're going to attempt the whole set in the long run, please write the letter/number down. (This cache was mentioned in Episode 72 of The Chicago Geocacher Podcast.)
