A principios de marzo del presente año, Sir Edward Vernon ha osado atacar Cartagena de Indias envuelto en la euforia que le ha dado su victoria en Portobelo, en el Istmo de Panamá. Se ha hecho a un ejército formidable y nosotros sólo disponemos de unos 3.600 hombres y seis de mis mejores naves: el Galicia, el San Carlos, el San Felipe, el África, el Dragón y el Conquistador.
Al principio, Vernon silenció las baterías de las fortalezas de Chamba, San Felipe y Santiago; luego, cañoneó durante dieciseis días y sus respectivas noches la fortaleza de San Luis de Bocachica forzando el repliegue de Don Carlos Des Naux y 500 de sus hombres. Han tomado el Cerro de la Popa y sólo falta por tomar el Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas, que han empezado a rodear y a atacar por tierra y por mar incesantemente.
Yo, Blas de Lezo y Olavarrieta, Teniente General de la Real Armada Española, he jurado defender esta ciudad con la misma decisión y valentía con la que he ofrecido mi mano, mi pierna y mi ojo en anteriores batallas y por otras causas.
Sin embargo, he querido dejar un tesoro. Se trata de diversos objetos que he recogido en estas tierras de Indias y que espero que sean del agrado y disfrute de los aventureros que emprendan su búsqueda. Para encontrarlo, dirígete a las coordenadas, toma asiento, pide la carta y pregunta por "El tesoro de Blas de Lezo"; sus guardianes sabrán qué hacer entonces.

At the beginning of March of this year, Sir Edward Vernon dared to invade Cartagena de Indias euphoric after the victory of his conquest en Portobelo in the Istmo of Panama. He has with him a formidable army and we only have at our disposal some 3,600 men and six of our best ships: the Galicia, the San Carlos, the San Felipe, the África, the Dragón and the Conquistador.
At his arrival in the bay of Cartagena, Vernon gained control of the battle forts of Chamba, San Felipe and Santiago. There after, he bombarded the fort of San Luis de Bocachica with cannons for sixteen days and nights forcing the withdrawal of Don Carlos Des Naux and 500 of his men. The English have taken the Cerro de la Popa and all that remains before Cartagena falls is the Castle of San Felipe de Barajas. They have started to circle the castle and are attacking incessantly by land and sea.
I, Blas de Lezo y Olavarrieta, Lieutenant General of the Royal Army of Spain, have sworn to defend this city with the same decisive and valient actions in which I sacrificed my hand, leg and eye in previous combat.
However, I left this treasure as a tribute, in which lie many diverse objects that I have collected traversing these rich lands of the Indias. I hope that it brings joy and satisfaction to those who search and find.
