Geocache Description:

The cache is located at the entrance to what is believed to be the only surviving Edwardian power station building left in the Britain. It was opened in 1903 by the Bournemouth and Poole Electricity Supply Company as a generating station to serve the Christchurch area. From 1905 the power was also used to power the local tram netwrok that ran from Poole to Christchurch.

It continued to generate local power until the area was connected to the National Grid in the late 1920's / early 1930's. It then became the local transformer station.

In the late 1970's Southern Electric decided to turn the building into a museum and education centre for schools, large parts of the main structure remains as it was and is well worth a look round. They have displays of appliances frm the 1920's through to today, an original tram and many other electricity related items.

It is free to go in although it is opening times are limited. It is only open Monday to Thursday from 12pm to 4pm from Easter to 30th September. (Fridays too during school holidays)
