LEVADA DO FURADO
A Levada do Furado, com início no Ribeiro Frio é uma das mais antigas levadas pertencentes ao estado, tendo sido adquirida por contrato celebrado no ano 1822 entre o primeiro Conde Carvalhal e a Junta da Real Fazenda, cujo destino era irrigar os campos agrícolas do Porto da Cruz. Esta levada tem ligação com as levadas do Juncal e da Serra do Faial, que se juntam logo no seu início e continuam para além do seu terminus no sítio dos Lamaceiros, dizendo-se popularmente que transporta três águas: a que é recolhida no vale do Ribeiro Frio regando os poios do Porto da Cruz e as que vindo das serras de Santana, sendo armazenadas na Lagoa do Santo da Serra para posterior distribuição. Ao longo da levada podemos contemplar os multivariados tons de verde, proporcionados por uma mancha de floresta natural da ilha, bem conservada -Floresta Laurissilva do Til e do Vinhático, constituída predominantemente por espécies vegetais arbóreas da família das Lauráceas: o Til (Ocotea foetens), o Loureiro (Laurus novocanariensis), o Vinhático (Persea indica), o Folhado (Clethra arborea). Podem também ser observadas espécies arbustivas tais como: o Isoplexis (Isoplexis sceptrum), o Massaroco (Echium candicans), as Estreleiras (Argyranthemum pinnatifidum), a Orquídea da Serra (Dactylorhiza foliosa). Das espécies animais que podem ser observadas é possível avistar o Bisbis (Regulus ignicapillus madeirensis), o mais pequeno pássaro que povoa a Madeira, o destemido tentilhão (Fringilla coelebs) e mais raro será observar o Pombo Trocaz (Columba trocaz) espécie endémica da Madeira.
