Geocache Description:

Across the road from the cache is a property called "Funny Hill". Just beyond an old stone cottage, you can see the rails for the racecourse. The Binda Picnic Races (AKA Crookwell Races) are held annually here. The Funny Hill racecourse has been active since 1874 and is one of the oldest courses in Australia still in operation.

The races are usually held in early-mid March. It is not a TAB race but there are on course bookies for those who want a flutter. There are fashions in the field prizes around lunchtime. It is a lot of fun especially if you book a site and take your marque / tent along. This is one of the biggest days/nights of the year in Crooky and accommodation is booked out well in advance.

The old stone cottage that you can see was once a school. In 1877 due to dwindling student numbers the National School that was located in Binda was relocated here. The owner of the time, Henry Carr, made the cottage available to be run as a school from 8th Feb 1877 until February 1892 when the school returned to Binda.

The cache is a medium size sistema container with space for swaps. It is on the northbound side of the road, just past the racecourse. You can see where the racecourse is if you look out for the windsocks.
