About This Cache:
The history that lead to the New Zealand nation as we know it now includes the land wars of 1850- 1870. Historians have presented a number of differing accounts of what really happened over those years, and the full understating of what occurred will continue to develop as our society changes.
What is certain, is that the Waikato town of Alexandra, (now known as Pirongia) was an outpost between two peoples, and a number of fortified sites were developed around this area.
Alexander Redoubt East was constructed on this site in 1864, after the Waikato war was over, at the edge of the land that the dispossessed Maori who had retreated south into the King Country controlled. The redoubt housed 100 men of the 2nd Waikato Regiment, protecting the surveying and development of the land in this area.
As you take the short walk to the hide, review the signage here and cast your mind back to those days where this land was claimed by two peoples with different ideas of what ownership meant, and enjoy the peaceful view of the river below, a major highway in the 19th Century.
You are looking for a small 200ml sistema click-clack container, coloured brown. Please do look at the hint, rather than compromise the hide by searching too long, and take care to re-hide it well, in this reasonably public location.
You are encouraged to include pictures with your log (just no spoilers).
