FALHA GEOLÓGICA
Em geologia, uma falha geológica é uma descontinuidade que se forma pela fratura das rochas superficiais da Terra quando as forças tectônicas superam a resistência das rochas. A zona de ruptura tem uma superficie geralmente bem definida, denominada “plano de falha” e sua formação é acompanhada de um deslizamento de rochas tangencial a este plano.
A FALHA GEOLÓGICA DE S. PAIO
A praia dos Castros ocupa o espaço que resulta de uma falha Geológica (um corte mais ou menos profundo na superfície terrestre). Os geólogos supõem que as arribas que se podem ver nas duas extremidades da praia, correspondem às escarpas de falha criadas pela ruptura da superfície naquele lugar (neotectónica). Pensa-se que o maciço rochoso a sul se elevou mais rapidamente que a norte, o que corresponderá a uma tectónica local, um fenómeno raramente comprovado.

Para poder fazer o log desta cache terá de visitar S. Paio local onde alem da Falha Geológica existem mais algumas curiosidades geológicas.
Primeiro terá de visitar o Waypoint A (coordenadas da cache) onde pode observar a falha e dizer-me se a areia preenche a falha geológica é fina ou grossa e qual o nome do maciço rochoso a norte?
Depois terá de visitar o Waypoint B observar o local e dizer-me que outra curiosidade geológica pode observar?

GEOLOGICAL FAULT
In geology, a fault is a planar fracture or discontinuity in a volume of rock, across which there has been significant displacement along the fractures as a result of earth movement. Large faults within the Earth's crust result from the action of plate tectonic forces, with the largest forming the boundaries between the plates, such as subduction zones or transform faults. S. PAIO GEOLOGICAL FAULT
Castro's Beach ocupies the space opened by a geological fault (a medium size cut in the planrt's surface). Geologists think that the cliffs in the extremities of the beach correspond precisely to the fault. It is accepted that the rocks to the south are risingup at a faster rate than the elevation to the north. This indicates the existence of neotectonics in the area.
THE EARTHCACHE
In order to log this cache you must visit S. Palo where besides the Geological Fault there are some more geological curiosities.
First you need to visit the Waypoint A (cache coordinates) where you can observe the fault and tell me if the sand that fills the fault line is thin or thick, and what is the name of the rock mass to the north?
You will then visit the Waypoint B and observe the site and tell me what other geological curiosity you can observe?
