Geocache Description:

Space Cache about a half mile from parking.  Cache is off a paved trail.

This Cache:

This is a great park and also a great historical location for the Space Race

The park has lot's of open space and paved trails. You can walk, bike, stroll, meander, or amble all around the property including the abandoned airstrip.

I could write up a brief history of the property but I will give you a link to the museum site instead. Suffice it to say that at one point all of the US astronauts including Alan Shepard, Neil Armstrong, and John Glenn all trained here.

Area History

Also, check out the AG3L caches around the park. They give a great history of the park and government base.

The cache is place in a location that we found a little creepy. There is ex-military housing bordering the park. It is completely abandoned and there are probably 100 homes there that could be moved into with a little cleaning up.

The hide is meant to be a little tough and different. Some people will find it easy and some will have a hard time.

This Series:

This cache is part of the SPACE 2081: A Geocaching Odyssey challenge.

This challenge contains one cache of each difficulty and terrain combination, plus a final cache which can be found only after finding all 81 caches that are part of the series. Each of those 81 caches will contain a code, which you will use as part of the puzzle to solve the FINAL CACHE.

All the members of the space team are actual cachers who are remaining anonymous for the moment. You can find more info on the series, as well as a complete list of released caches HERE. Please do not post hints or spoilers in your logs. Also, each cache must be signed by any individual cachers going for the final.

Good luck, may the force be with you, live long and prosper.
