Geocache Description:

Due to popular demand.... Picnic in Peekskill is returning!!! Come one, come all!

Join the LoHud cachers for our 2nd annual Picnic at Blue Mountain Reservation! Blue Mountain Reservation is a 1,538-acre park in the northwest section of Westchester County. It was aquired in 1926. It features miles of trails for mountain biking, strolling and nature study, and offers challenging hikes to the tops of two large peaks, Mt. Spitzenberg and Blue Mountain.

The Sportsman Center at Blue Mountain Reservation is a recreation facility offering target ranges. The 12-mile Briarcliff-Peekskill Trailway, an unpaved trail for hiking, is accessible from the Blue Mountain trail system.

The park contains a bathhouse and trail lodge, as well as two historically significant comfort stations. These comfort stations were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and are reminiscent of early 20th century National Park structures.

Our picnic will begin at noon at Group Picnic area #3- but come early and stay late for lots of great caching. Last year, a bumper crop of new caches were placed in time for the event, but there is still room for some new ones. Anyone interested in coordinating new caches?

Walkin' Ed has generously volunteered to, once again, coordinate food. A list will be added to this page soon. Please contact him to let him know what you'll be bringing.

If you own and can bring a picnic/popup canopy, please contact Larra-three. The picnic space is open air, and we'd like to have a few of these in case of inclement weather.

A nominal - but not mandatory - donation of $2.00/cache name is requested, to help cover the cost of the picnic area.

I'm sure more help will be needed, so, if you have any special skills that can help us out, contact Larra-Three to let me know!

There is a parking fee of $10/vehicle, if you do not have a Westchester County Park pass. However, I will be issuing copies of our permit (as I did last year). This will reduce the parking fee to $5/vehicle.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in July!

***Please Nnote: Although dogs are allowed at Blue Mountain Reservation, they are NOT allowed in the picnic areas. Please plan accordingly!
