In Piazza del Limbo (one of the oldest in the city) there is a building with an inscription on its facade BATHS IN ANCIENT SPA. In 1826, Antonio Peppini commissioned to architect Telemachus Bonaiuti the construction of a spa building in this area (now no longer in business), which took its name Peppini Baths, in the same area where the ancient Roman baths where located (not surprisingly the parallel road is called Via delle Terme – Spa street). Nowadays there is no visible trace of the Roman baths, because they were partially destroyed by both the barbarian invasions and the rich Florentine families, who used, as it was perfectly normal at that time, the ancient Roman stones to build their tower-houses all along Borgo Santi Apostoli.
In piazza del Limbo (una delle più antiche della città) si trova un edificio che riporta sulla propria facciata la scritta BAGNI NELLE ANTICHE TERME. Nel 1826 Antonio Peppini incaricò l’architetto Telemaco Bonaiuti di realizzare in questa area uno stabilimento termale (oggi non più in attività), che prese il nome di Bagni Peppini, nella stessa zona dove sorgevano le antiche terme romane; non a caso la strada parallela si chiama Via delle Terme. Delle antiche terme romane non rimangono oggi vestigia visibili in superficie; furono distrutte prima dalle invasioni barbariche e poi dalle ricche famiglie fiorentine, che utilizzarono, come si usava a quell'epoca, le antiche pietre romane per erigere le loro case-torri lungo Borgo Santi Apostoli.
