The Brocklesby Hunt#1-Mausoleum Woods Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Bobo Frett: I'm afraid that The Brocklesby Estate have made the decision to keep the Mausoleum Woods closed to the public (due to vandalism and litter increase over the last year) and have requesed the caches be removed.
I'd like to thank them for the opportunity to bring cachers to the estate.

We may yet have the opportunity to host events in the future, fingers crossed.

Thanks to all who visited and for all the great feedback and favourite points

Geocache Description:

The Brocklesby Hunt

All caches are placed with kind permission of the Brocklesby Estate.

To ensure the longevity of this series the Estate have asked that certain rules be adhered to. These are...

  • Caches can only be logged when the estate is open to the public (1st April-31st August). The series will be disabled out of season and the caches stored at Frett towers until caching season next falls.
  • There is to be no caching after dark. No torchlight caching.
  • The caches have been placed with the environment in mind. There is no need to damage anything to retrieve the caches. All caches are close to the path. There are comprehensive clues if required.
  • The route follows the posts with yellow markers on them, this is the public route. Please adhere to all signposts throughout the estate.

Welcome to The Brocklesby Hunt

Please park at the parking waypoint to begin your wander.

If you are going to complete the circular then it is approximately 15.5 miles.

Mausoleum Woods is 6.8 miles with a 'there and back again' section.

Cottagers Dale is 2.1 miles.

The Hendale section consists of Brompton, Halliday and Hendale Woods and they total 4 miles.

The Long Road Home is 2.6 miles. (These caches can be done as drive bys and don't affect finding the Bonus Bonanaza)

There are refreshments available near the parking waypoint in the form of a public house and a shop. There are no public toilets on the walk but there are lots of trees

Due to dense tree cover our coords varied slightly each time we visited. I also used two different GPS' when hiding and took at least 4 sets of coords for each cache.

To ensure minimum damage to the forest our hints are rather comprehensive to compensate for varying coords. Please use them if you need to but the caches should not be too difficult to locate.

Please bring tweezers and a pen.

The Brocklesby Hunt can be completed in one session or can be split into smaller sections if you wish. Each leg will have its own bonus cache. The bonus cache can be found by completing the relevant section and taking note of the letters which appear on the logbook in SOME of the caches.

In each bonus cache will be part coords for 'Bobo's Brocklesby Bonus Bonanza' which you will only be able to find if you have completed the full series.

Due to the nature of our permissions there are parts of the walk which are linear, please take this into account when planning your visit here.

BH#1-Mausoleum Woods

You are looking for a disguised nano.

A nice short walk from the car park to get you started. Located just off the path. Once found, carry on up the path.

Remember: In some of the caches you will find a letter. Please take a note of these letters as they will help you find the bonus cache.

A few facts... (We saw this done on the York Mega Series and we've nicked it cos it was cool.)

4 caches went missing before they were even published. 2 were replaced and one of those went missing again. We now don't like squirrels.

FTF honours go to; Nutty & Evil, MESG aka Frog's Mum, Froggy Too who got her 700th milestone on an FTF here and she's only five (ish), The Inbetweeners, David1052, Jonny Apples, RichIckle and George, Cache Ash, Cache Ollie and The*Aliens.

Daddy*Alien cracked where the Uber Mega Bonkers Bonus was after a night of code cracking, map puzzling, algorithms and all sorts of web magic and nabbed it before anyone else. Kudos.

David1052 was the first to complete the full series. Double Kudos

Here is an interesting link I found to some 18th century sketchings I found. Sketchings of features on the estate. http://www.tate.org.uk/art/artworks/turner-the-brocklesby-mausoleum-seen-among-trees-d05159
