CHURCH MICRO 2716 ST LUKE`S NEWTON ABBOT
Dedicated to St Luke the evangelist this church came about as the result of a dream of the vicar of Coffinswell and is known as `The Dream`
The architect was Arthur Martin (who was the brother of J.Keble Martin of British Flora).Building started in 1936 with the Lady chapel and a temporary extension –halted during the Second World War was completed in 1963.
It is in the form of St.Andrew`s cross with side chapels off the nave giving exceptional spatial quality inside. It is markedly different from traditional churches having no chancel and no screen so the congregation have a clear view of the altar The modern red chairs provide a cheerful decor Placed above the main(busy) road it can easily be overlooked but is of white stone and an impressive shape.
It follows a high Anglian form of worship.
“If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
There is also a Church Micro Stats page found via the Bookmark list”
The cache is now on a public footpath which can be reached across the church grounds, from Addison road via steps up the public footpath or from Aller Park road
