This cache has been archived.

GEO_Group: One month later, time to archive. Thanks again to all who helped organize the event, placed geocaches, and donated prizes. And of course, thanks to everyone who came and helped build that monster pile of trash!

Doug Thompson, Ottawa Councillor for that ward who attended SNCITO4, has sent me/us a sincere thank you letter for our work. See attached image.

Geocache Description:

The GEOCACHERS OF EASTERN ONTARIO (GEO), with the support of South Nation Conservation (SNC), will be running a Cache In Trash Out event on Saturday April 27th, 2013. This cleanup will be focusing on cleaning up pre-selected sites along nearby parks, trails, and pretty much any other public space we can locate in the area in need of a good cleanup!

This is the fourth annual SNCITO event. SNCITO has always been a lot of fun, and a very productive day. Can you believe that one of the first SNCITO teams managed to CITO a car from the river? The First SNCITO was held at Cass Bridge Conservation Area, SNCITO2 was held at Jessup’s Falls Conservation Area, and SNCITO3 was held at High Falls Conservation Area. SNCITO4 will be held at Shields Creek Park in Greely at the posted coordinates.

SNCITO4 will have a similar schedule to the last SNCITOs. It will be all morning, and end in the mid afternoon. While participating in SNCITO4, remember to wear appropriate footwear and gloves, and be careful when collecting the trash! You are responsible for your own safety!

Please LOG YOUR WILL ATTEND if you think you will be able to make it. Please also indicate how many people are coming with you (only if they are not logging the “Will attend” for themselves).

Updates will be posted here when we get closer to the event. Geocachers will be notified of these announcements if you’ve logged your “Will Attend”.

DETAILS:

MEET at Shields Creek Park (Posted coordinates) for the Taste of the Nation breakfast, which will commence promptly at 8:00 AM. Breakfast will consist of Vogel’s BACON, Vogel’s SAUSAGE, PANCAKES, MAPLE SYRUP, scrambled EGGS, HOME FRIES, and JUICE/COFFEE. This catered breakfast is FREE for all the participants in the CITO, paid for by South Nation Conservation Authority in appreciation of all the hard CITO work you’re about to do!

We really need to know beforehand how many plates of food to prepare... so please log your will attend as soon as you’ve cleared your schedule that day, and be sure your log tells how many people you’re bringing with you (for anyone coming who’s not logged their own will attends!) If you need to cancel, please write on the cache page so we aren’t saving food for you! Once on site at Shield’s Creek proceed to the registration station to receive your voucher for breakfast.

From 8:40 AM to 8:50 AM geocachers will be separated (or separate themselves) into groups. These groups will be given a task cleanup site in the general vicinity. We will do our best to match up the difficulty of the pre-selected sites with the ambitiousness of the individual groups. Keep your eyes peeled for geocaches posted in this region just before the event, because "Cache In" is just as fun as "Trash Out"!

At 9:00 AM the groups will organize carpooling/travel arrangements to begin cleaning up their site. You’ll need to arrange your own lunch (we recommend you plan a picnic for yourself!) Dress according to the weather, and with good working clothes, footwear and gloves. SNCITO4 will be held on this day and time rain or shine!

We would like everyone to return to Shield’s Creek by 1:45 PM, after an intense session of Caching In and Trashing Out! Bring your garbage back to Shield’s Creek if possible. If not possible, mark the coordinates of your trash, and let one of the organizers know so we can make arrangements for it to be picked up. The trash will be piled up for the stunning team picture at 2:00 SHARP! Following the picture and loading of trash into SNC vehicles for disposal, DOOR PRIZES will be drawn, and a final CITO check will be performed at Shield’s Creek to make sure the area is even nicer than when we arrived.

GEOCOINS: For more information on the geocoins produced for SNCITO see the forums.

DOOR PRIZE DONATIONS: Please consider donating a geocaching themed Door Prize for a fellow geocacher to win! We will keep track of everyone who donates a door prize, and donors will be entered in a draw to win a set of 4 GOLD SNC GEOCOINS and matching gold plated stands. Other geocachers can enter this draw for $5.00 a ticket, or 3 for $10.00. There will also be a 50/50 draw. Both of these draws are GEO fundraisers so we can cover event and prize costs. Any extra funds will support future GEO events- Thanks in advance for your support!

CAN YOU HELP OUT? Since this CITO is outside of our core GEO area and encroaching on the CCC geocaching zone, we’re really hoping to see some CCC volunteers helping us prepare. Let us know by posting on the SNCITO4 Forum post! We could use some help with any (or all) of the following areas:

- Suggested places to clean up (within approx. 15 min drive of the posted coordinates)
- Hiding Geocaches to be found on April 27th: submit in advance of the day with a note to reviewer to hold publication until April 24th, and a note on the geocache page: “This cache is placed for SNCITO4. Don’t search for this geocache until after 9:30 AM on April 27th 2013.”
- Assisting with the running of SNCITO4 on the day of the event (lots of ways to help- we can find a job that suits you!)
