Geocache Description:

Please note that there is a nursery school run in the adjacent building, so please only attempt to find this cache when it is closed (i.e. evening's/weekends). Thank you.

The twentieth in this series whereby a red telephone box is to be found within 20 feet of a red post box.

This phone box has recently been repainted and refurbished as a local parish information box and subsequently there is no telephone. The nearby post box is looking well worn in comparison.

Steep Village Hall

The Steep Memorial Village Club, to give it its full name, was built after the First World War on land given to the village by Bedales School. The cost was met by public subscription as a memorial to Parishioners who served during the war. A list of these (including the name of Edward Thomas) can be seen in the entrance to the Hall.

The Club was originally run to provide a recreational facility for the village and was operated by its own Management Committee. However, in the 1930's, the Trustees passed it over to the Parish Council who effectively became the new Trustees.

Tradition has it that during the Hall's construction, Stanley Spencer offered to paint a memorial mural, but the village had doubts and declined his offer!

The Hall was substantially enlarged and modernised in 1999 as part of the Millennium Celebrations with generous support from the Millennium Commission and Snell & Wilcox, and many parishioners.

It is now one of the best equipped and popular village halls in the district, various clubs and groups meet there regularly.

If anybody would like to place 'A Fine Pair' of their own please do, I would just ask that you could let wizardsmum know first so she can keep track of the numbers and names to avoid duplication

You are looking for a key safe type container (so no space for TB's or swaps), which holds only a logbook, so please bring your own pen or pencil.
