Geocache Description:

Panoramic view to Paximadia and the southern coastline

Why does this cache exist? Well, we visited this wonderful island Crete now more than dozen times. We went from west to east from north to south, from nice beaches up in the mountains - still knowing we really have seen only the smallest part of Crete.
On our trips over the island we often used to go from Spili in the direction of Messara and the other way around. Most times we came along here in the one or other direction we found ourselfes taking a detour because we love the scenic view to the Paximadia islands (link to wikipedia.org for more information) from this winding road which leads from Agia Galini up in the hills. Reaching the top you will slowly come down to Melambes in front of the panoramic view to the Mt. Kedhros and the far Psiloritis in the northeast. One reason for this simple drive by cache is to lead you on this detour and the second reason is the really phatastic view over the southern coast line and to the Paximadia islands. If you decide to take the 'long way' instead of using the easy, quick and straight possibility you should also go down to 'Agios Georgios' and visit the cache Agios Georgios Byzantine Church - a really beautiful place.

In springtime you should take your time to investigate the multiple flora of this area

You can find a parking area near the shown cache site below.

Please behave with respect to the nature.

Nevertheless the cache is hidden and you have to remove 'something' to get it – please do this carefully! We recommend to be very careful grabing into holes or other unclear areas – especially if you are searching together with kids. You should know that there are some kinds of animals which could harm you more or less. It is not very likely to encounter these animals while you are on your cache tour. But it is better to know about any possible risks!

Many thanks to WIND&WATER for supporting our cache in case maintenance is needed!

We wish you happy hunting!
