This is a Wherigo adaptation of the 2012 theatrical production Battleship, itself loosely based on the Hasbro board game of the same name. You are already familiar with the board game. In the movie version an alien advance party of five spacecraft landed on Earth and a cat and mouse game Battleship style ensued in the sea around Hawaii. In this version you will be playing the part of the alien invading force trying to destroy ships of the Japanese and US navies. These ships are trying to prevent you taking control of a satellite array which would allow you to contact your alien brethren on your home world thus bringing about the second wave of invasion. The open area on which you're standing is the "sea"--your game board. The ships you're to sink will be placed, hidden, upon the field. Your job is to sink them all.
In this game, you are given a limited supply of ammunition to use to sink the ships. Just as with traditional games of Battleship, you must cause damage along the length of the ship in order to save it. For instance, in traditional Battleship, a submarine must have three hits before it is sunk. In this version, a submarine is composed of three zones, which all must be hit in order to sink the ship.
