Im Westen der Insel Kuba inmitten von Tabakfeldern und eingebetet in den Mogotes (Kalksteinhügel) liegt das noch recht beschauliche Örtchen Vinales im gleichnamigen Tal. Hier hat es uns auf unserer Reise so gut gefallen, dass wir einfach nicht anders konnten, als mit einem Cache auf diesen Ort weiter aufmerksam zu machen.

Die knarrenden Schaukelstühle auf den Verandas, die Strohhut und Machete tragenden Tabakbauern, zu Pferd, oder zu Fuss entlang der Strasse und die mit Tabakblättern gefüllten Scheuenen entschleunigen diese Gegend so sehr, dass es sich selbst auf den geneigten Besucher überträgt.

Der Stadtkern von Vinales steht unter Dernkmalschutz und entlang der Hauptstraße Salvador Cisneros kann man trotz oder auch wegen des immer stärker werden Tourismus den Kubanischen Alttag sozusagen im Miniaturformat erleben.

Auch das Umland bietet, zu Fuß, zu Pferd, mit dem Fahrrad oder Mietwagen wunderschöne Landschaften und Ausflugziele.

Während unseres Besuchs in Vinales lernten wir eine sehr nette kubanische Familie kennen und erzaehlten bei einem abendlichen Mojito auf der Veranda von unserem Hobby. Nene, Mariuska und Alexis waren ganz begeistert und erklärten sich bereit die Hüter unseres Caches in Vinales zu werden und die Dose bei Ihnen zu verwahren.

Finden konnten Ihr die Dose auch ohne GPS. Wenn ihr aus Richtung Bahia Honda/ Cayo Levisa kommt einfach von der Hauptstrasse beim Sportplatz/ Baseballfeld nach rechts abbiegen und der Straße folgen bis ihr das Spoilerfoto findet. Wenn ihr aus Richtung Pinar der Rio kommt müsst entsprechend links abbiegen.
ACHTUNG! IN Kuba gibt es kein Internet und Geocaching ist dort nicht bekannt und als Tourist ist man NIE wirklich unbeobachtet. Bitte bedenkt dies bei eurer Suche nach der Dose!

In the west of the Cuban Island, amidst tobacco farms and nestling between mogotes (lime rocks) you’ll find the serene village Vinales in the valley of Vinales. We enjoyed our stay here so much that we could not help it and left a cache to draw your attention to this village.

The creaking rocking chairs on the porches, the tobacco farmers carrying strawhats and machetes, on horseback or walking along the road and the barns filled with tobacco leafs slow down this region in a way that even the visitor gets “infected” by it.

The city center of Vinales are listed buildings and along the main street Salvador Cisneros you’ll experience the Cuban everyday life in miniature version.

The surrounding areas offer – whether trekking, on horseback or by bike or rental car – wonderful landscapes and destinations.

While staying in Vinales we met a very nice Cuban family and told them about our hobby having a Mojito on their porch. Nene, Mariuska and Alexis were excited about it and offered to become the guards of our cache in Vinales and to keep the container in their home.

Thus, being in Vinales you should stop at the Casa Nene, have a look around – the cache is easy to find. Refer to the given hint.

Log your visit on the log sheets and maybe you are lucky and will meet the nice Cuban family as well. The owners would be happy about some pictures as well.

You won’t need a GPS device for finding the container. When coming from Bahia Honda/ Cayo Levisa make a right turn at the sports/ baseball field and follow the street until you find the house from the spoiler pic. When coming from Pinar del Rio just make a left turn.
ATTENTION! In Cuba there is no Internet and people don´t know about Geocaching. As a tourist you are never really by yourself- please have this in mind if you look for a cache.
