Geocache Description:

I don't know about you, but I'm frequently bored to tears.

I challenge every one of you to admit, at least to yourselves, that you occasionally imagine that your life is more exciting than it actually is.

You're a Secret Agent, a Movie Star, an Economist, a Police Officer, a Prize-Fighter, a Ballerina, a Prize-Fighting Ballerina, Leader of a Revolutionary Movement, Super-Barista, Iron Man, Sam Spade or just someone with a secret. You get it.

With this in mind, your log entry for this cache should be a detailed account of your hunt for and acquisition of this smiley. The only thing that's NOT required in your log is:

THE TRUTH!

In fact, I encourage you to avoid it!

This cache is not intended to help you encounter a scenic vista or historical place; rather the point is to encourage you to visit the weirder recesses of your imagination and share the log entries you've always wanted to write.

Now, of course you don't HAVE TO invent fantastic adventures to log this cache. If you want to file a good ol' reliable "TFTC" log, that's just fine, too. You'll probably want to come back from time to time and enjoy the continuing exploits of others.

In the spirit of what this cache is all about,
Let me tell you what I had to go through to place this cache:

SITE SELECTION:

Using aerial photo analysis techniques developed during the Cold War, combined with a statistical study of the date/times of Cache Logs filed in a two hundred mile rhombus around my home location I determined the highest traffic patterns for 'successful' cache hunts for the last forty-five days. I weighted each cache according to the 'find counts' on the logs and the frequency of 'finds-per-week' of the cachers who filed those logs. So far, easy-peasy.

Then, using the 'Routing' algorithms freely available through Google Maps ("Get Directions"), I compared these statistics for DayOfWeek, DayOfMonth, TimeOfDay and PhaseOfMoon, and calculated seventeen geopositional candidate locations for optimal cache placement to ensure the highest probability of putting my cache directly in the paths of as many of you as possible. This is where it got interesting.

Finally, the choice was made through numismatic gravitational-rebound rotation analysis. In other words, a coin-toss.

Somewhat surprisingly, the epicenter of the array of possible placement sites was not too far from my own crib, so I'll be able to keep an eye on this cache.

PHYSICAL ACCESS TO THE CACHE:

To get to the site, I had to figure out how to cross the stream that runs in front of the chosen location. I couldn't come up on it from the back because of the electric fence that keeps in the residents of the adjoining property. Hint: Don't touch anything metal as you get close.

The stream is deep, and flows in pretty colors where it comes out of that pipe. I don't recommend getting wet as it makes you all tingly and light-headed. I left a rope hanging from a dead tree limb that should swing you CLOSE to the other bank if you're tall enough. Time it well and jump far. Make sure you keep the rope on YOUR side; otherwise you'll have to wait for the next cacher.

THE CONTAINER:

The cache container itself is a locking, airtight chest with a self-closing lid. That means don't lean in too far. It's big enough for a log, all the Travel Bugs you've ever seen, victims, small bicycles and a rope ladder. Bring your own pen.

To open the combination lock, apply this formula:
  • 1st Number: Divide the number of WHOLE DEGREES in this cache location's latitude by zero
  • 2nd Number: Multiply your BIRTH YEAR by -17
  • 3rd Number: 4

The only other things you need to know about approaching this cache are covered in the opening scene of "Raiders of the Lost Ark".

OKAY, that's it. Now, let's hear about who or what you encountered as you pursued this little happy-face. 'Found It' or not, what did you have to do? Whom did you have to fight? Bridge-trolls? Wizards? What's your quest? What's your favorite colour? Leave no aspect of your story unexaggerated; leave no detail unembellished.

We'll be reading!

Finally, there's a special First-To-Find Prize waiting in the cache:
The ORIGINAL, FACTORY-ISSUED Double-A BATTERIES from my FIRST-EVER GPSr!!
These genuine, non-aftermarket power cells served me well for quite a while; I know they'll serve you, too.

An important, absolutely true, serious note from the folks at Team_Rabbit_Run:
We am humbled.

When we wrote the cache page for TRR's Liars' Cache, we were oh-so pleased with it; "Look how clever we be!"

But, we are put to shame by the creativity of y'all. The stories attached to the logs on this cache are true things of beauty, and we graciously thank each and every one of you for playing along with us.

A Cache Owner 'gifts' the community a cache to find, and here the community has returned the favor in spades.

In consideration of the degree to which people have jumped into the spirit of this cache, in April of 2013 after a year's worth of adventures we hosted a contest to select the *BEST* of the logs filed to date.

Chosen solely by the cachers who had previously filed logs (and NOT us here at TRR Central!) the crowd spoke, and the winner was declared....

JMONTI!

The prize for the
"Best of the B*****T" contest was a run at a special custom cache (shouldn't that be the annoying "kustom kache"?).

On May 18th, jmonti notified us that he had indeed set off on his
BotBS quest, and on the following day he filed a report of his exploits!

See his logs from May 19th, 2013 below!
